Blogs, ierland -- 18 months ago, by ierlandSometimes language can be very complicated. In the past one would talk about retarded people. Nowadays that seems to be rude. So it are people with special needs. As long we understand the code, there is no problem.
However, how about those ladies from the United States of America shouting in TV-adds: I am special, I deserve it! [meaning some special (?) product or treatment]
Unless the add-company is crowded with special people we have to assume that those ladies feel that they are different than other people. Although they sometimes are telling things that should suggest the contrary, they are probably supposed to be or at least (have to) pretend being above the average person.
Or did we not understand the message correctly and are they indeed special and is that why they deserve that product or treatment? Sometimes adds are deliberately a little bit stupid. Sorry, I should have said special, shouldn’t I?I guess, there is nothing special at all about these adds anymore. I see these so often that it is just a general template, easily adapted for any commercial.
So, it is common again, nothing special. Or am I wrong again. It just has become a catch phrase without any real meaning, at least in these adds. Perhaps I am special in believing that?
