2,500 scientists from 130 countries (who make up the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) have said they're more than 90 per cent certain global warming is due to people, not natural changes.
The world's temperature has risen 1.26°F since the industrial era started, and Scientists are now overwhelmingly confident that mankind is to blame.
Scientists estimate 21st century temperatures will rise between 3.2°F and 7.8°F (1.8°C and 4°C).
The latest UN report is the first to be so categorical in identifying humans as the cause of climate change. Previous reports in 2001, 1995 and 1990 stated only that is was “likely” climate change had a human cause.
The evidence of climate change is startling. The 10 hottest years since records began in the 1850s have occurred since 1994. This is expected to mean far higher rises in temperate latitudes and at the poles.
The anticipated outcome includes melting of land-based ice in Greenland and Antarctica, and the dying back of the Brazilian rainforest, rising sea levels, more frequent heatwaves, drought, heavy rainfall and more severe storms.
The true impact may not be felt for another 50-75 years but if we're responsible, surely we don't want this to be the legacy we leave for our children and grandchildren!
