When it comes to national sporting humiliation, you’d have to go a long way to match the shambolic efforts of England’s cricket team in Australia this winter (or summer, depending on where you are).Well, just when you’d lost the will to pay anymore notice, England have managed a 92-run victory, compliments of an Irishman. Ed Joyce scored a century (faced 136-balls), and was supported by the bowling efforts of Liam Plunkett, who finished with three for 24.

It was England’s first win against any Australian side since 2005, having lost the previous nine games (including the Ashes, the Twenty20 contest and three previous one-day internationals). England scored 292 for seven (a record score for England against Australia in 50-over matches).
