Windows Vista and my weekend of woe

I woke up all excited Saturday morning to buy a brand spanking new laptop. Little did I know the horrors that awaited me.

At 1am I finally gave up. Vista had drained all life from my body. I felt like smashing the blasted machine into tiny pieces.

Here are some of the annoying problems I came across:
  • The webcam that came with the laptop wasn't Vista compatible
  • Major WiFi problems - coming back from sleep, the WiFi wouldn't work. A restart was sometimes needed
  • The laptop's brightness buttons stopped working for no apparent reason
  • The CD drive completely stopped working. Restarts didn't help, no drivers were available on the web. The only solution I could find was to completely reinstall from the restore CD. Two hours wasted.
  • Some of my most important software just didn't work right
  • The screen kept flickering on and off
I ended up giving up. I took the laptop back to the shop and tried to forget about it. I was mad - really mad. I'd wasted soooo much time.

So I bought a Windows XP machine instead, and lived happily ever after :)

yes, there is much frustration coming from Vista. There is some cool stuff in it, but at what price.
It pretty much is windows, but they added all the stuff that OS X has had for years. When is MS going to come up with their own ideas?

haha - too funny, well in a kind of horrible kind of way... And yes, why do we keep supporting this bloody OS? Have I said how much I hate IE lately?

I like the title of this: "Windows Vista and my weekend of woe".

      Very good alliteration.

But you could have made it better by saying "Wank Windows Vista and my weekend of worry and woe"

It's funny how relativity works. Beside Vista, XP looks good!

ha ha - the very reason I'm not buying it until at least, hmmm, like version ten or something. MS has been crapola from about Win95 onwards, I'd not touch anything new of theirs for at least 6 months and 10 patches. Even XP drives me nuts as it is - Blinky has a lot to answer for.

I've tried many times. My servers run linux. I run cygwin on win32. but i need to run various applications that just don't run (or at least i can't figure them out) under wine.
