VNV became an instant obsession - I've always liked Goth and Industrial... To me they are a progression of both fusing dark techno with lighter industrial... The lyrics they use often have what I would call a non bleak, hopeful feeling... at times almost sounding like religion but in interviews he's asked often about that and he says it's just spiritual and has noting to do with a specific religion. It's odd from a style of music that often is dark and bleak.

Once you get hooked it's hard to stop listening if you like this style of music... something very haunting and captivating about the sound... it always makes me feel good even if things aren't great.

I live and work near Camden in London, the whole vibe is heavily Goth.

There's also a huge cyberpunk movement. Sometimes when I walk around it's like being in an episode of Star Trek! Especially walking into Cyberdog.

I've always loved Goth stuff. Cure is my top band. D-Mode and where they have gone is great. Love the sound of fusing this stuff with d&b.

Depeche Mode has to be my best band anymore if I had to pick just one. They've really changed the face of modern music while never getting to be a commercial band. David Gahn (singer from Depeche Mode) is one of my biggest vocal influences... along with David Bowie.

Sounds like you live in a fun area! NYC has become so boring since they drove out all the artsy folks... It's just a dull posh corporate yuppyville now. YAWN!

            YouTube

            iTunes

I remember when I used to work sound at the local NYC clubs my main place was a place called "The Bank" on Houston Street. Sice bands are only on for like 2 hours of the night tops I'd get to dance around all night lol 5 hours of non stop dancing those were the days!

I first saw KMFDM in concert when Juke Joint Jezebel came out. Other great Industrial bands I've seen include: Sister Machine Gun, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, PWEI, NIN, and the list goes on. I have a special place in my heart for the old school My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult! By the way, I have a lot of old industrial cds if you want any.

hehe I've done audio for a lot of those bands sans NIN he had his own crew.

As for other industrial bands I like (in no special order)...
Cubanate, Ministry, Front 242, Imperative Reaction,Laibach, Meat Beat, Nitzer Ebb, Oomph!, Skinny Puppy, Aboforcen, Icon of Coil, Angels & Agony, Assemblage 23, Bigod 20, C-Tec, Front Line Assembly, Project Pitchfork

Ok I'll cut it there LOL I could go on and on please don't think my musical taste is limited to industrial it ranges over some very wild ecliectic areas.

From Brian Setzer Orchestra to Bel Canto

One song I have been looking for for a long time now is Motorbike by Sheep on Drugs. It's not the greatest song but it has memories when I was a we tot lol hanging out at one of the seediest clubs in NY called Danceteria. Motorbike, Babaylon by Meat Beat Manifesto, Dya Think I'm sexy by Revco and Sex on Wheels by TKK all take me back to my early days in the club scene!

I worked for TVT back in the early 90s for a short time. I got to see Front 242 I forget the venue though it was a small NYC place and it was sincerely strange... They looked like a bunch of hip hop guys and even had the hip hop -ish moves LOL really bizzare
