Escanda is a collective gathering young people from different countries and working to create alternative ways we live, taking into account renewable energy use to fight global warming and petrol (war) based consumption, better use of resources.Situated in Asturias (north of the iberian peninsula between Galicia and Cantabria) the collective made an agreement with a local foundation to be able to use the site and develop their projects.
ESCANDA IS A SELF ORGANISED COLLECTIVE
Decisions are taken by consensus on a weekly assembly and the project gets shaped and defined once a year. It is possible to form part of the project as long as the group accepts you in after a trial period. Visiting it is also possible for a couple of weeks. No fee is required but donations are highly welcome (maybe woyano could add this project to foundable organisations :-)), and of course, visitors must participate in all the tasks in the house and collaborate with the projects.WORKSHOPS AND GATHERINGS
Soon a workshop will be organised to teach people how to adapt their diesel engine in order to consume only vegetable oil. There is an organic garden that is used mainly to cover the needs of the members and visitors.
Escanda aims at soustainable living although this is a difficult thing still in today's society. An other number of iniciatives for a freer world are happening there:
- gatherings on gender, queer theory, women, popular education, renewable energies, free independent media
- infonights on different issues: movements for social justice and protests around the globe, queer theory, social economy, is it possible to build alternatives to capitalism?
- Open days for visits
Escanda is also part of WWOOF (World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (also known as Willing Workers on Organic Farms)) and dozes of wwoof volunteers also known as "Wwoofers" visit the site specially over the summer.
Here we can find how an alternative is tried to be built thanks to good work from their members and gaining more and more legitimacy

And if we're talking about new charities to add, I would start with Medecins Sans Frontiers.
