Until the past century, Hemp Seed was a staple food for virtually all the peoples of the world. Often used in porridges and soups, hemp seed was an inexpensive food staple. Hemp Seed was also made into butters and oatmeal. Hemp Seed can be pressed for its highly nutritious vegetable oil and grounded hemp seed (or the byproduct of pressing) can be used like a flour, to make breads, cakes, cookies and other dishes. Hemp Seed can be made to be similar to tofu. If hemp seeds are sprouted they can be used as any other sprout for salads, or even diary products such as milk or ice cream.

It is interesting to note that prior to this past century, hemp seed cake was one of the world’s principle animal feeds. Hemp seed provided a complete diet for all domesticated animals including dogs, cats, chickens and cows.

Hemp Seed Oil is known as a nutritious vegetable oil, as it contains the highest amount of easily digestible essential fatty acids (81% of volume) [yet has among the lowest amount of saturated fats (8% of volume)] in the plant kingdom. These fatty acids control human immune system responses, as well as clean the arteries of cholesterol and plaque. In addition to fatty acids, hemp seed contains all the essential amino acids (55% linoleic acid (LA) and 25% linolenic acid (LNA), which convert food energy into life energy, and is a part of the oxygen transfer process.). These amino acids help in the production of human serum albumin, as well as serum globulins (such as gamma globulin) proteins. Hemp Seed contains 65% globulin edestin, plus quantities of albumin globulin, which help in the creation of disease fighting antibodies known as immunoglobulins. The seed itself contains approximately 20- 25% protein, 20-30% carbohydrates and 10-15% insoluble fiber, as well as a rich array of minerals including phosphorous, potassium, magnesium, sulfur, and calcium, along with modest amounts of iron and zinc. All this makes hemp the most complete food source for animal (including human) nutrition.

Approximately 20-30 million people each year die of starvation. We are often told that this is because of limited natural resources, and that we (those in the west) should be happy with what we have. Though the truth is that we are the cause of those deaths. A food source is, and has been available for millions of years which could end starvation throughout the world. Hemp is the cure, to the world’s food needs. It does not even require packaging, as the outer shell, is a perfectly edible container that protects the vital oils and vitamins within from spoilage. Hemp can be grow almost anywhere, requires little water and can adapted to increased ultraviolet light. Hemp is inexpensive and requires little knowledge for successful harvests. Hemp is the Perfect Food Source.
