This is interesting but I wonder if it's actually the cured meats causing the problem.
Quote:
"Individuals who consumed cured meats frequently were more likely to be male, of lower socio-economic status, to be tobacco users, and were less likely to report physician-diagnosed asthma than individuals who never consumed cured meats”
Does this mean that eating bacon causes you to be a tobacco user? Or to be in a lower socio-economic class? I'd suspect that eating 'cured meats' as such is more of a symptom...ie being of a 'lower socio-economic class' causes bacon-consumption.
I seldom eat pork for the simple reason that I try to consume as little fat as possible. On the rare occasions I do indulge in bacon, I cut all of the fat off, but I do have to say, for about an hour after eating bacon, I find I'm dropping my aitches, doffing my cap to smartly dressed people and have an almost uncontrollable urge to buy cigarettes.

Overheard at the Doctor's Waiting Room:
"Are you going to tell your wife the doctor said you had asthma?"
"No - I had a ham sandwich for tea last night. If we have beef tonight, I might tell her tomorrow".

I work with statisticians - next to accountants they're great to make fun of :o)
