Eating and Drinking Hemp has long been part of human life. In the past, eating hemp seed for nutrition was very important for balanced health, but eating and drinking hemp for its psychotropic effects has been popular as well. Here we shall explore both aspects of eating and drinking hemp, for balanced nutrition as well as psychotropic effects.

 

 Nutritional Recipes    Hemp is a very flexible and easy to use ingredient, that is wonderfully nutrient, and can be utilized for almost any meal or snack. 

 Preparing Hemp Seed/Oil for Consumption:

*   Oils and hulled seeds should not be heated to high temperatures due to low smoke point, as well as destruction of nutritional benefits.

 *   Clean the seeds. Make sure there is no foreign matter in your seed mix.

           -In water, dead seeds will sink.

 *   Let the seeds dry naturally or use a hemp towel to dry them out(only slightly)

*   Sterilized seeds do not contain the same nutritional value as non-sterilized seeds, but are still tasty. Oils which use sterilized seeds will go rancid much quicker than regular seeds. 

Milk

*   1.25 Liters of Water

*   500ml of hulled hemp seeds

*   Additive(see below)   

Hemp milk is very easy to make. Simply blend 1.250liters of  water and 500ml of hulled seeds in an electric juicer, and add flavouring such as honey, vanilla, maple syrup, even carob powder. 

  Once made, this milk must be stored in a refrigerator. It can be used like milk to make smoothies, ice cream or even to thicken sauces.

Hemp-Oil Salad Dressing

*   3 tablespoons hemp oil*   1 teaspoon hemp vinegar*   1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice*   1 clove garlic*   2-3 inch piece of fresh, peeled ginger*   Sea salt*   Freshly ground pepper*   Finely chopped fresh herbs (chives, parsley, etc)*   45mg hulled hemp seeds

  A quick salad dressing to make, that is especially good with bitter salads such as dandelion, or mixed salads with tomatoes. Press the ginger and garlic and mix the extracted liquids, with all the additional ingredients. Add additional herbs, according to taste. Gently toss salad, with dressing and top with hulled hemp seeds. Can be stored for up to two weeks in a refridgerator in a mason jar.

Hemp/Almond Pesto

*   1/2 cup toasted hulled hemp seeds*   2/3 cup sliced almonds*   1 bunch of basil*   3 tablespoons hemp oil*   3 tablespoons olive oil*   2 cups grated parmesan cheese  Crush hemp seeds, almonds, basil and mix with hemp oil, olive oil to form a paste. Prepare 1.5 pounds of pesto pasta. Add parmesan and diced tomatoes.

Hemp Carrot salad

*   8 large carrots*   4 tablespoons hulled hemp seeds*   6 tablespoons hemp oil*   2 tablespoons lemon juice*   2-3 inch piece of fresh ginger (or less, according to taste)*   Sea salt

Toast hemp seeds and mix them with grated carrots. Press the ginger and mix the extracted liquids, with all the additional ingredient and mix into carrots and seed mix. Wait 30mins prior to eating, to allow juices to absorb into carrots. Serves four.

Hempseed Tahini Sauce

*   1 cup  hulled hemp seeds*   1 tablespoon hemp oil*   1 tablespoon water (optional)

Toast the seeds and finaly grind them. Mix with the oil to form a smooth paste. Add water as needed to keep moist. Tahini sauce is good to add with Hummus,  Halvah and Baba Ghanoush.

Hemp Seed Humus

*   3/4 Hempseed Tahini Sauce

*   1 can (15 ounces) of cooked chickpeas

*   1 tablespoons hemp oil

*   1/2 cup lemon juice

*   3 - 4 cloves of crushed garlic

*   1 teaspoon soy sauce

*   Freshly ground pepper

*   A pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

Puree the chickpeas in a blender, add the other ingredients, and blend until the texture is smooth and creamy.

Hemp Tofu

*   600ml hemp milk *   300ml boiling water*   2 tsp lemon juice *   Pressing Mass*   1 plastic bag

 Mix 2 teaspoons of lemon juice, with 1 cup of boiling water. Boil 2 cups of hemp milk for 2 minutes and than mix lemon water and milk and remove from heat forl 3 minutes, until curds form. Place contents into plastic bag, seal and place pressing mass on top. Leave for 1 hour, and than remove tofu from bag. Best eaten immediately, but can be stored in water, in a refridgerator for up to three days.

Hemp Mayonnaise

*   2 egg yolks

*   salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

*   1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

*   290ml cold pressed hemp oil

*   1 teaspoon of lemon juice

*   1 teaspoon hemp vinegar

 Place yolks into a bowl, and mix in salt, pepper, mustard. Slowly mix in oil, until you have a thick paste. Add lemon juice and small quanties of vinegar.

Hemp Potato Salad with Yogurt Dressing

*   225g potatoes

*   140ml Yogurt

*   1 spring onion

*   1/2 cup of toasted hemp seed

*   1/4-1/2 garlic salt

*   1/2 teaspoon oregano

*   1 tablespoon of cold pressed hempseed oil

*   Salt and pepper to taste

Cook the potatoes until tender. Cool slightly. Put the yoghurt in a bowl. Mince the spring onions and toasted hempseeds and add them to the bowl along with the garlic salt, oregano and hemp oil. Mix well.Dice the potatoes and add them to the bowl. Mix them in. Cover bowl and chill. .

Hemp Croquettes

*   4 oz toasted hemp seed

*   1 onion

*   4 oz millet

*   1 tbs soy sauce

*   1 tbs cold pressed hemp oil

*   1 oz hemp flour

*   1 tbs vegetable oil for frying

*   1 egg beaten

*   fresh breadcrumbs

Peal and finely chop or grate the onion. Cook the millet in twice the quantity of water or water to cover. Crush the toasted hempseed with a pestle and mortar then mix this with millet, onion, soy sauce and hemp oil. Shape into small croquette shapes and coat in flour. Dip in beaten egg and then roll in breadcrumbs before frying in the vegetable oil until crispy and golden brown.

Hemp Pasta

*   225 g hemp flour

*   225 g plain flour or Italian pasta flour

*   4 eggs

*   1 tablespoon of cold pressed hemp oil

  Mix the two flours, and sift onto a wooden board. Make a small “bowl” with the flours and place in 4 eggs and hemp oil. Mix the eggs and oil, and slowly mix in the flours. The mixture should be a stiff dough. Knead for 15minutes or until eleastic and smooth. Wrap in plastic wrap, and leave in a cool place for 1 hour. Roll out dough until paper thin and cut into required shapes. Hang noodles to dry for at least 30minutes before boiling.

Bannock

*    6 Cups of  Hemp flour

*    1 Cup of hemp butter

*    3 Tablespoons of baking powder

*    3 ½ Cups of water

*    2 Cups of currants,  raisins, or even chocolate chips

  Mix the hemp flour and the hemp butter. Add baking powder, and your additive of choice, such as currents, raisins, or even chocolate chips.(Very sticky mix!). Add water and thoroughly mix in you additives into the dough. If cooked on open fire, wrap dough around the end of a long stick, and hold above fire slightly rotating until golden brown. In an oven, spread the dough out on a cake pan, and bake at 218’C for about 20mins, or until golden brown.

 Since Hemp has been used by many cultures throughout the world, there are countless recipes for cooking with hemp. This diversity in traditional recipes comes from a plant that many different cultures have agreed is safe and beneficial. It is only in modern times when hemp has been part of a drug culture that demonized it, and created a void in our own cultures and civilizations.

 

 Psychotropic Recipes

    Cannabiniods and other active ingredients are fat and alcohol soluble, and so there are many ways to prepare cannabis for consumption. By entering the body via the digestive tract rather than through the lungs, the intoxication effects are slower, but also more complete. In addition the consumption of heated smoke into the lungs is completely eminitated, thus this method is favoured by many people.

 

   The easiest way to eat cannabis is simply by eating the unprepared leaves or buds. It is a common misconsumption that cannabis must be heated before consumption in order to activate the cannabinoids. Amoung the most popular method of preparing cannabis for consumption is by using fats and alcohol, and cooking to extract the essential oils. The process of cooking to extract the maximum amount of cannabinoids and other chemicals, into food and having the food consumable in a pleasant manner, is certainly a form of art.

 

 “Magic Brownies”

  ‘Magic Brownies’ is a term to describe brownies mixed with hashish or raw cannabis. It is well known throughout the marijuana user culture, as they are simple way to cook to extract the psychotropic properties of hemp.

Bong’s Bud Butter

   To make a healthy and psychotropic butter, use hemp butter as the base to your bud butter. All the benefits of hemp in one butter. Typically, you would simmer 100grams of hemp butter, with 5grams(or more) of finely grinded bud or hash, for about 15-20minutes. If a lot of bud is used, the butter will turn a slight green colour from the bud, otherwise it will be pale with speckles. Than squeeze the butter through a fine strainer, obtaining as much butter as possible. Bud butter can be used in any recipe that requires butter such as Brownies, Vegetables or even sliced bread.

Highlapeno Hot Sauce

*   250ml –Hash oil (diluted to 1:10, 10ml)

*   100ml – Jalapeno Juice

*   100ml – Hemp Vinegar

*   spices(such as peppers, cinnamon)

 Chronic Chicken

*   -Baste chicken in Highlapeno Hot Sauce

*   -Add Bud Butter

    Cook at 275’ for 20mins

 “Mashed” Potatoes

*   -10 Potatoes (peeled and soaked)

*   -2 sticks Bud Butter

*   -250ml Hemp Milk

 

       Whip, until well mixed.

 Spaghettini  Bowl-‘n -glaze

*   -1lb of Pasta

*   -Ground Beef Basted in Highlapeno Hot Sauce

*   -cook ground beef in Hash-oil-Juice (alcohol and Hemp)

*   -2 Cans of Tomatoes (1 can of paste, if lots of people)

*   -Ground up magic Mushrooms ‘shrooms’ (soaked in lemon juice)

*   -Pepper and Buds

 

   Cook pasta separately and than stir in cooked meat into large pot and simmer for 30mins.

Drink Recipes 

  The use of alcohol as a way to extract cannabinoids, can assist in making some wonderful beverages.

 Green Dragon 

*   -190 proof grain alcohol (lower grades can be used, but unwanted chemicals maybe added by distiller)

*   -Lemon lime pop

*   -Honey

*   -Ice

  Traditional Method

   Place buds into a bottle of 190 proof alcohol, and leave for 2-3 weeks. To allow the cannabinoids to leach out.

  Modern Method

     Simmer alcohol and gently mix in buds. Great amounts of care should taken, as alcohol is highly flammable.

 

     After the cannabinoids have been leached, a emerald green liquid will be left. It can be drunk straight, though it is recommended to add 1 part of the liquid with 3 parts lemon lime pop, served with ice, and honey to taste.

 Bong’s Buttered Bhang

  A traditional beverage of India, and used in tantric rituals(see medical section: Sexuality), hot buttered bhang is reminiscent of hot chocolate, a delicious and satisfying flavor.

 

*   -Hemp Butter or Bud Butter

*   15 grams of Bud or Leaves

*   -Bottle of Vodka

*   -2 teaspoons of cardamom seed powder

*   -Honey
