The way web audiences are measured could be ripe for an overhaul, according to two reports out this week.

Measurements based on page-views and cookies (small text files which track net use) could be affected by changing user behaviour, the studies warn.


Nice to see that common sense does appear from time to time. I am one on those hardcore users who frequently resets his cookies. Well, I allow cookies only for the length of a session, which amounts to the same thing.

Oh, and that February EBay figure, I reckon that was just me!

    Registered users is a good quantitative measurement. My space has 100 million of those...

      I disagree there. Take a site like Neowin - thousands upon thousands of registered users, but a great many of those haven't signed in for months and years.

      If the dead accounts were regularly pruned, it might be worth noting. Otherwise, it's just an ego-badge as far as I can see.
