Well here goes - I dont want to give plots away so these are just my opinions.
Robert Wilson- The Hidden Assassins , Inspector Falcon inspects a faceless, handless corpse on the city rubbish tip.Shortly afterward a block of flats explodes, a mosque in the building, are they linked?, if so by what...etc.-terrorism blah blah...
Not a bad book for when there is nothing else to do, the plot tends to plod with the characters needing more fleshing out but overall not bad. Perhaps I'm biased but this book did not grip me at all despite the blurb on the back.-
Stella Rimmington- Secret Asset. Liz Carlyle (MI5) learns of a possible terrorist link to an islamic book shop in London. Queue the bad guy music....
An interesting book with more than enough human content to keep folks interested in the characters. The leading plot lines run at a reasonable pace with the body count kept to a minimum and the tension ratcheted up by other means. The supporting cast is a little large but then again MI5 aint no kindergarten, where everone knows each other. A well crafted book, but the again as the former head of MI5 she should know what the spy trade is about.
Tess Gerritsen- Stolen. Jordan Tavistock, wealthy heir to a British lord becomes involved in a plot about a sunken ship, missing antiques and a beautiful thief.
Guess what?, if this book was any more predictable I'd ask for her to write episodes of Scooby Doo. Awful, truly bad. I instantly relegated it to the toilet and forced myself to read it when I couldn't get away from it. This plot came straight out of an episode of the Saint, and was just as badly acted.
Ken McCoy- tripper. A town in West Yorkshire, the top of a 12 story building, Ron Crusher is forced off a building.-suicide??Enter Sam 'mad' Carew builder, ex-copper and part time investigator.
An excellent book full of interesting people (who spend alot of time in the pub-then again with a load of yorkshiremen as lead characters what do you expect). The plot reaches back in time and drags the past into the present as the body count mounts, the Sam becomes involved with a vicious gangster whilst trying to solve the case. Written with a very dry sense of humor , full of sarcasm and a sprinkling of wit, I'd recommend this to anyone.
Sign of the Cross - Chris Kuzneski. A vatican preist is crucified in the shadow of hamlets castle, an archeologist makes a startling discovery and our 2 heroes are locked in a spanish jail.
Fast paced, plot filled, plenty of shooting and car chases etc, a superb thriller in the modern genre. Anyone who likes Clive Cusser or Vince Flynn will love this book. Open the page, sit back and enjoy the ride.
