But the leopard gave up her meal to protect the baby, and tried to keep it warm. Adult leopards just weren't built with the right equipment to attach to infant baboons. Even if there was enough warmth, how to feed? How would the infant become socialized? Learn to protect itself? This raises interesting questions.

Has anyone seen the TV programme, "Feral Children"? It's about children who are raised by animals, or grow from a young age amongst animals like dogs. There are documented cases of children who suffer neglect of parents and they actually have more contact with animals. These young children attach to dogs and live with the pack, they take on the behaviors of the dogs, such as barking, fighting, crawling, and eating from the ground. If this socialization happens at a critical period of development (let's say between age 3-5) it is very difficult for children to un-learn these behaviors and interact like humans. It's interesting to understand how important a secure connection between primary carer and infant is to a child's development. Learning at this time will influence the rest of a person's life, in thinking about growth and development into adulthood.
