What do you think of this potential Woyano design?

Hi Everyone,

We have been getting quite a lot of feedback that our design
is not quite serious enough for the type of community that
we are building here.

As a result we feel that we need to change the look and feel to make
it fit with the type of contributions and sensible discussions that
have been happening on Woyano.

Before we make any drastic changes, we wanted to run our new
design concept past you to see what you think about it...

http://www.woyano.com/demo4.htm

What do you think?

JV :)

Looks good but you should stick with blue instead of red (as in the new style but blue color not red) - this way you still have the mental associations with the old layout so it will look a little less like a completely new site.

Hiya. Thanks for this suggestion :)

FYI - The reason for moving from Blue to Red/Wine is because after recent research we have seen that community websites can benefit from using warm colours, rather than cold blues.

Makes a place feel more homely apparently!

I think the new design looks good. Is this just a change in looks rather than function? Another suggestion I would think would be useful for the site would be to have an interests listing for the users. Just static categories to choose from. This way when searching for new friends, you can find people with the same interests. The page for "Browse for new friends" is nice but if you end up with thousands of users, scrolling through all those pages would be hard.

Just a suggestion. I do like the new design.. has nice colors.

Looks good. The interests area geeko mentions sounds like a great idea.

I like the more subtle look - I had to adblock the woyano logo at work cuz it was a dead give away I was goofing off. I don't mind the red navbar however... wouldn't it be just as simple to do the nav in CSS and allow us to choose in a user settings area what color we like best? I think that's the best way to make people feel at home when you let them decide what curtains they hang. You can default the standard site to the red and then allow a person to decide later what they want to see?

          Looking good

haha... adblock... to be honest, the red/wine colors are easier to "shield" at work. Like edoriv stated, the current blue logo is a pretty clear flag that screams "slacking!" to the rest of the office. Personally, Personally I like the blue look-n-feel, but the new design, other than color, has the same feel for me. I'm easy...

I had felt at first that the current layout was a bit cluttered, somewhat too active _ as in, geee, where am i supposed to look? but I came to appreciate the list of what's hot, that is, what has been posted that has attracted attention. in the new one, at first glance: it's attractive and simple but seems to me to be staid and restrained, unexciting. you said you wanted to go to "more serious," but i wouldn't find this enticing. it seems a bit heavy on the serious side -- and with only one topic, kind of limited in terms of catching my interest. what are the odds that the single item shown will be of interest to tons of folk? among all the stuff vying for my attention when i'm online, i personally find i'm often turned off by the very item the site seems to think will pull me in, but maybe i'm weird that way LOL. so, i'm suggesting that there at least be more than one ... perhaps a varied four? that might offer the variety i'm suggesting would be desirable without being too many, without becoming a shouting glob.

also, the "join" box and the "what's woyano" box seem to me to be somewhat duplicative _ and with both right at the top, side by side, I found myself wondering why they were in that position since their content is so similar. i didn't like, don't like, the "promote yourself" portion of the current setup, incidentally. i guess that what i'm doing, but i sure don't want to admit it, let alone acknowledge that it's the main reason for jumping in. LOL

also, it seems to me that the yellow of the "what's woyano" box clashes with red/wine. ditto the yellow of that box and the yellow of the "join now" bar. in fact, there are five different yellows in those two boxes, and i don't think they work with each other, let alone with the red/wine. all this may be just an idiosyncratic reaction, of course.

also don't like the green of the "contribute now" bar ... what's research say abut that bluish-green that geeko used in one of his skins? i like that green. anyway, though, why have a "contribute now" bar on a first-glance page? one would have to have joined in order to use it, right?

I like geeko's comment about interests and finding people _ it's already difficult to page through the membership. and edoriv's comment about color choice: of course, that would be after one had joined, so it wouldn't apply to first-glance enticement, which i gather is part of your intent in the proposed change. otherwise, i second the idea. for instance, i've noticed that the MSN home page has color choice boxes at the top; the default blue is fine with me, so i haven't used the choice, but i rather like having it available. maybe sometime on a given day i'll feel one way and go for red, and on another day, pick some other color for a while.

ermmmm, sorry about all this, boss. i'm just automatically kinda analytical *wan smile*

Just a quick note to say that there will be the same number of topics as on the current page, that is just for illustrative purposes only :)

How will this new design effect skins that are already being used? Is the red tabs on the "My Woyano" page as well?

My Woyano pages will be unaffected by any new design, apart from inside the white area of the Woyano bar at the top. :)

Wow! That's a lot of comments to take in all at once ~chuckles~ I have to agree that the warmer colors are a lot easier on the eyes.. not that I have any problem with the current design :) The Woyano team hasn't let us down yet .. BUT as geeko pointed out .. what about the skins ? ~L~

OK my two cents worth... I really like the red makes the site look very elegant but find the "woyano? logo" in the multi colours fits to this site and I would hate to see that go perhaps they could just be muted a bit??

Certainly looks more professional but that is the most boring logo colours I have ever seen! At least give it a hint of life ...

I'm with VelvetSkye and jfmuk on this. The new design looks much better but the new logo looks too... vague. The current one is the complete opposite! It's a bit too "childish" and so I can appreciate the need for change. But don't abandon color completely!

I like edoriv's idea about allowing us to be able to change the main site colors. Maybe a few basic themes (red wine/blue water/puke green/hot sexy pink) - not many, just four or so. That way we can personalize the main site a little.

I like that white logo! Less people will be turned off by something simple like that. If you have bright colours then there will always be people who hate it!

The world and indeed woyano would be a very boring place if everything was designed to cause the least possible offence.

:) as long as I can skin my lil piece of Woyano .. the over all site design does not bother me .. I just tend to view it the same as viewing someone else's custom skin ..some of the pages look the same .. some of them look different ..and I always welcome a change ..keeps things interesting !

I think I've left commenting on this a bit late :P Does look good, perhaps could do with being themed for different categories of content (el reg style)?
