If the Year Fits...

I was reading about the different zodiac signs and years in both the Asian and European astrological formats.  It is one of the things I am interested in.  It fits in with my other interests of Mythology, Religion, Ancient Civilizations, Astronomy, and of course Origins of Superstition.  I find this all very fascinating and interrelated.

My signs are conflicting yet similar.  For example, I am a Cancer, which is a water sign, but I am also a Fire Dragon.  This is where it gets interesting.... (for me at least)

Dragon (short version)

Positive Qualities:  effective, intelligent, ambitious, honest, imaginative, elegant, and proud

Negative Qualities:  impatient, impulsive, demanding, prickly (short tempered) and self righteous

Main features of a Dragon:  Charming, positive, caring and enterprising, but you have the tendency of running your own show and can be very demanding and authoritarian.  Others will find you a little too tough and at times very difficult to work with.

Fire Dragon:  This is the Dragon in the sky, who will be both powerful and famous.  There is a greater chance for you to find an outstanding partner, and when the time comes you can be very rich and fortunate.  You manage well on your own and do not need help from outsiders.  They are the  most righteous, outgoing, and competitive of all Dragons.  But while they may be stubborn, irrational and overbearing when irked, they forgive almost instantly.  They are extremely passionate, and what ever differences they have with others are forgotten or set aside when called for aid.

Dragon's equivalent is Libra

Cancer (short version)

Positive Qualities:  emotional and loving, intuitive and imaginative, shrewd and cautious, protective and sympathetic

Negative Qualities:  changeable and moody, overemotional and touchy, clinging and unable to let go

Main feature of Cancer:  The Cancerian character is the least clear-cut of all those associated with the signs of the zodiac. It can range from the timid, dull, shy and withdrawn to the most brilliant, and famous.  They are fundamentally conservative and home loving in nature.  That is not to say that the Cancerian is unsociable, just that for them there is a time to socialize and a time to be solitary, and this is part of the apparent contradiction in their nature. Outwardly they can appear formidable - thick-skinned, unemotional, uncompromising, obstinately tenacious, purposeful, energetic, shrewd, intuitive and wise, sometimes with a philosophical profundity of thought verging on inspiration. Their intimates, however, may see a very different character, one with a sympathetic and kindly sensitivity to other people, especially those they love. 

Cancer's equivalent is the Sheep

I my opinion, the texts are saying that these signs (dragon and cancer) are different, and yet I think they have many identical qualities.  Dragons are "extremely defined" and cancer's are "ambiguous". Some how I don't see this when they are broken down into their base traits.  They are both head strong and willing to fight for what they believe in, and are also very giving and forgiving.  Cancers are both introverted and extroverted, where as Dragons are usually extroverted.  

Either way, I don't believe in astrology as anything but something interesting.  It does not govern my life, but it is fun to see the defined traits and discover which apply to me and which don't.  But that's just my opinion.
