to me what you are suggesting is that one side is allowed to bad mouth but the other side is not, and that if the left wing should then you aren't interested in them

when they said that they served with john kerry, they were infering they had been on the same boat with kerry and that was not true. they were in vietnam but none of them knew kerry.
the right wing knew kerry was a decorated war hero from vietnam and that bush got out of going to vietnam (along with a whole host of republicans like dick cheney etc) so they knew that that would be a focus of kerrys character
so what they did was find guys who were willing to lie about having served with kerry
it was a great strategy that is true, but it was all lies
but the ultimate ticket would be barack and al :)
