I'm thinking of doing the trans-mongolian and would be very intrested in any hearing from people who have done this. Is it worth it? Whats the best way? etc, etc?
For those who don't know what I'm talking about - it's a train from Moscow to Beijing, it can take only 6-7 days, but you can break it up and spend a few days in towns along the way.
for more information have a look at this website:

good site- these guys are pretty onto it- the prices are pretty close and up to date as far as I have found out.

Visas on express (this is a killer- you need about six weeks to do it slowly) 270 pounds
trains: 370 pounds

So not to bad when you look at the"package deals" for around 2000 pounds! I hope that includes airfares!
We're going to leave London and catch a bus to Amsterdam, Then to Hamburg, Germany - Krakaw, Poland - Kiev, Ukraine - Moscow. Then on the other end we're going to travel down through China to Vietnam - Laos - Thialand - then fly home to New Zealand =)
*phewph*!
Any recommendations welcome!
