Whistler wasn't always Whistler...

The original name of the mountain was London Mountain, and the valley where the town is was called Alta Lake. With the advent of the ski resort in the late 1960s the name was changed to Whistler to represent the whistling calls of the marmots that lived in the alpine areas of the mountain.

    People used to eat marmots here in the Cariboo. Apparently they were quite greasy but tasty.
