Getting there
Ideally, if you are travelling from outside Ireland, the closest airport is Shannon (SNN) at about 12 miles (20km) away. A taxi from the airport will set you back about €30-35
Dublin airport is about 125 miles away (200 km) and I guess a bus, rather than a taxi would be advisable. Bus to Dublin city centre and another bus to Limerick, all available via Bus Eireann. Car rental is also available of course, and follow the M7 and N7 all the way to Limerick.
Other airports include Cork, and Knock, and similar transport is recommended.
If you do happen to land in the 'fabulous' Shannon airport, and perhaps decide to rent a car, just follow the N18 to Limerick from the ariport. It's pretty straight forward.
Accommodation in Limerick.
Well, a simple google (tm) showed up some interesting accommodation, and I'd like to make some recommendations. If you have a query about some in particular, just pop me a mail here on Woyono.
City centre hotels are the simplest with no need for taxis. (Limerick has a very small centre)
Jury's Hotel (€93 for the 13th)
Sarsfield Inn (€87 for the 13th)
Patrick Punches (€49 for the 13th) (about €7 in a taxi, but walkable)
After that there are B&Bs which tend to be cheaper, but would also give you breakfast in their price.
Details on accommodation is at the link provided.
Rosalie has provisionally booked a number of rooms in Jury's Hotel for €62 (group discount) so if you haven't already booked something, contact her on her woyano mail.
Protection
As with any travel, and especially to large metropolitan areas such as Limerick (ahem) you will have to protect yourself from various forms of harm. In general, please take note of the following items in particular:
Swans: Although a beautiful (and protected) creature, they do tend to have very nasty bones that can catch in the back of your throat if not careful. So, if you are munching on one, do remember this vital point.
Automobiles: Some have been spotted in Ireland in recent days as the ole donkey-and-carts get phased out (damn modernisation). Irish drivers tend to look upon pedestrians as challenges rather than obstacles. They will try to gain as many points as possible per drive, 25 points for knocking down those up to the age of sixty five, 50 points for older. Bonus points for an aging couple.
Limerickonians: A fashionable hoody and track suit pants (with stripe down the side) will help you spot the friendly and helpful locals, who will gladly guide you through the streets should you need a pointer in the right direction. However, the Limerick accent at times can be difficult to the untrained ear, so make sure to pick up a nice PDA with translation software This can safely be handed over to the local lad for a good examination. If he suggests 'showing it to the shams', he'll merely take it off to his friends, and return it once they have all seen it. Be sure not to insult this local custom.
FAQs
Q: Do all Limerick people talk in limericks?
A: I was once asked a question like that, I turned to the man and said, "What?". I let out a sigh, and I said, "No not I!" And I hit him a belt with a bat!
Q: If I'm planning to stay in Limerick for a bit longer, what should I do?
A: Are you serious??
Q: I've been promised some special favours from one VIP member when we meet. What is your refund policy should this not happen?
A: All sales are final!!!
