As a natural carrot top, I'm often asked the question "So, do you have a fiery temper to go with that red hair?"
The answer is, depends on how well you know me!
This makes me wonder how true these stereotypes are about hair color and the personalities that supposedly go with them.
Do redheads always come with a feisty temperament?
Are redheads perceived to be more sexually-charged and promiscuous?

Do b
londes have more fun?Does being a blonde also mean you're dumb?
Compared to blondes, do brunettes seem more intelligent?
If you dye your hair blonde, do people assume your IQ just dropped a few points?

Are brunettes really like the girl next door?
Do these questions only pertain to women, or can men also be labelled "feisty redheads", "dumb blondes", or "the boy next door"?
Gentlemen, any preference? Ladies, which do you fancy?

I have noticed that (and this is a purely personal response) with brunettes and blondes, you get a full spectrum of 'beauty', ranging from drop-dead gorgeous, though pretty, okay, and all the way down to 'not even with yours, mate'.
With red-heads it seems (to me) it's one extreme or the other, but one thing is guaranteed (in my experience), the red-headed girls are ALL amazing in bed. And yes, they DO have tempers (my brother is one), which is probably related in some strange psychobabble way.
Sorry Georgie, but you DID ask.
What I did notice though are by and large blonds do like to play the dumb blond or bossy blond role. Is it because it's expected or does it serve them some purpose. I know some do it to make the man in their life happy. I wouldn't want anyone to do that to me!
Then again, my choice is dark brown or black hair and then red... My wife has natural almost black hair although she's red now and is red at least every few years for about 1 or 2 years at a time. I like it both ways the red suits her well.
I've HAVE noted personality shifts when I colored a persons hair. I'd say a person takes on a persona almost like wearing a mask. They feel different so they act different. The same is for people who loose a lot of weight or change the clothing they are used to wearing.
Here's an interesting fact that can help kick-start a new moment in a persons life, can help for those wishing to loose weight. Go out and get a total make over - change your hair if it's long get it cut if it's short wear a wig or grow it out. Change the color if you're light go dark and if dark go light. If you can go to a professional and have them show you ways to do your makeup better. This big shake up is often a motivating catalyst that helps make large changes in your life. Such as career change or weight loss.
woops sorry got side tracked there... The point I was making is yeah I'd say color change prompts attitude change but it's because it's what the person wants to be not because the color did it.
I am giving my notice ahead of time that what I am about to say DOES NOT HOLD TRUE 100% of the time.... HOWEVER.....
blonds (not all) often I've found to be either self absorbed, ditsy, party girls... I'd say that's due to the large number of women that think blond is the way to go and they often happen to be those very people seeking that life style.
red heads every single one real or bottle have ALL been highly warm, charming and intelligent! I'm not trying to suck up Georgie it's just my own perspective.
brunette warm, but can be calculating... girl next door??? lol I thought that's those ditsy blonds on TV
Then you have black hair and white blond... people that want to be noticed and love the attention. (myself included)
none of this is fact and I've met many blonds that don't fit ditsy blond just FAR more that do. As far as sex... by far at least in my circles that would be the ones with black or platinum hair lol
For the record my hair has been blond and black, blond bangs dark brown the rest, purple, blue, platinum and red but it was more like fiery stop sign red with white blond bangs.... it's been black now for a while though. I started coloring my hair at 13 years old lol
god you'd think I was on something today.... I'm like all wound up and hyper lol
cheers!
Do you suppose that it also maybe has something to do with locality? Personalities in different states vary greatly so consider that over even further distances. It might be interesting to try to see what people from different places responses are?
Freckles are the cutest. I love them. 'Sun Kisses', is what they are. Oh - and see my email :o)

I agree with IV that a change in appearance is a good boost and can be responsible for a change in character, I have been there and also witnessed that. Im also proud to say I have _never_ coloured my hair, I like its colour. :)
As I was reading IV's post I realized that I left raven haired women out of the mix, and I was thinking about my own stereotypes about women with black or dark brown hair. Think mysterious, exotic, and a little morbid, a la Morticia Adams, Mrs. Munster, Elvira, Angelina Jolie, Dita Von Teese, etc. Am I wrong here?
On a side note, I think people who change their appearance feel invigorated not only because of how it makes them feel, but because people who know them also may treat them differently (notice them more, give complements, etc). That makes them feel good about themselves, which even strangers notice, which feeds the good feelings and so on. Sort of a positive feedback loop. :-)
That's a good one *giggles* I must tell the ol' man.
Thanks for posting this ;D
"He has brown hair."
Huh?
That's all she said.
Well, what does that mean?
We have no idea. Mom is Mom. We don't understand her much of the time.
We never did find out if this was horror at the realization that her daughter had brought home an American, or if "brown hair" had some other significance to her. For the most part, except for complaining about me being fat (74kg for being 185cm tall), her mother has always been kind and warm toward me, despite having brown hair. :D
but it sounds like you did well
cheers georgie! I always love yer posts :)
As a kid my hair was wheat-chaff pale. It slowly darkened. I always listed myself as blond until one day as I was applying for a new driver's license, the examiner looked up at me a second time and changed the entry to brown. I literally was shocked _ I hadn't noticed, but somewhere along the line I no longer had been actually blond.
And I was surprised still years later when a close friend teased me about being her "red-headed bear" in a reference to my beard. By gollies, there were _ and are, even now amongst all the grey _ sandy red highlights. (Wellll, they still were there the last time i noticed, but durned if I'll go look for reassurance right now!)
Now, of course, it's increasingly silvered.
Soooo, folks, no wonder I'm such a mixed-up confusion; not even my hair knows what to make of me! (pun intended)
[The photo is somewhat misleading, I think _ it's 2004 and I'm greyer now. Besides, there's the sunlight glint.]
my sister has beautiful strawberry blonde hair n it has always been admired!
though she did put up with the "carrothead" comments from jealous kids n such
i think red hair is gorgeous and have dark brown hair with bright red highlights (nowadays)- n i love it!
I have noticed red-heads that with any other complexion and not with red-hair do not do it for me... but as a red-head they'll get my attention easily.
but it's the complexion that I found is important. Like heavily tanned women with dyed red-hair doesn't do it... but with the right complexion and red-hair without a doubt sets off a flag.
now having said that... that only works for getting my attention to want to look... the rest is determined by personality and atti-"tude"... so when it comes to that, it doesn't matter the configuration. If, you got a "tude", you can go get rude somewhere else... red-head or not.
that's just my 2 cents... or pents for you georgie!

Still you always get the teasing and even in high school i got the occasional *carrots* and you know those names.
I think it is more out of jealousy now, because red hair is not a very common hair type.
When i was little i wanted to have brunette or black hair, but you have to behappy with what you've got.
Hair looks best in its natural state,i tried dying my hair when i was fourteen, but it turned out terrible.
I tried cutting it short to take away the red,but soon i realised your hair is YOUR HAIR!
My best friend louise also has red hair and she is quite shy so the stereotype doesn't fit her at all.
I think i am a pretty reasonable person, ilove life and am very optimistic.
So,stereotypes are not aways true.
Sometimes, redheads, will get upset at those who claim we have bad tempers, but that's just b/c we're tired of you brunettes picking on us. We are only standing up for ourselves so you can leave us alone. Everyone is special and unique in their own way. Brunettes need to really stop being mean to us and stop the rumors. Anyone who believes stereotypes is ignorant. You're making stuff up about people you don't even know. You probably only have one redhead in your town. There are millions of us out there, but just all spread out. People in my yearbook wrote that I'm "sweet, don't ever change" and that I'm the NICEST girl they have ever met. I am a natural red head. (I looked like Pebbles from the Flintstones when I was born.) It was the other girls in my school who were mean to me. They were brunettes and fake blonds from NEW JERSEY. I think the people living in the part of Jersey I live in are mean. [I was born in Staten Island, NY.] I unfortunately moved to NJ and didn't like it. The guys are nice, but the girls were mean. (Especially sophomore year when my hair was really long.)
In movies, there may have been redheads who played bullies. When in reality, us redheads tolerate a lot and WE are the ones being bullied. Just stop picking on us, please. I'm a really nice person, who likes to be happy and have fun. I'm a virgin and staying that way until I am married. I'm happy to be a redhead. :)
Hey you know AdGuy always gets the last word! ;)
