   They did act quickly, yes, but this was less impressive than the London ones, the attack happened, it simply didn't go quite right.

   Yes. If it wasn't so serious it would be funny. A security guard thought it was an accident and tried to put the fire out, the men shouted at him, saying there was a bomb, then one set himself alight... he's in hospital now. (That's one story, anyway; eyewitnesses have been 'phoning the BBC and sending in photos.)
   The fire was quite big, it's amazing nobody was hurt and if they'd managed to get the jeep into the terminal building a lot of damage could have been done (and people been hurt).

    Yes -- really terrifying. I think people were saved because the car was on fire as it drove up, so they kept away from it. But it is still amazing that nobody was hurt (except of course for one of the bombers) bar a passenger who has a slight leg injury.

    They seem to, Michael, yes, also the London bombs weren't suicide attacks (if they had been, they could have done massive harm even though they weren't sophisticated).

    The terrorist who set himself alight has died from his injuries.
    
    I wonder what he thought as he lay in hospital. Did he feel he'd served Allah well and focus on heavenly rewards like those 70 virgins who would minister to his every need in the next world? Did he hope his family and the muftis would make him a hero and role model for other would-be murderers? Did he connect his pain as a dying human being to the fiery pain he'd intended to inflict on innocent other humans? Did he wish violent rape upon the probably unmutilated and unveiled female medical staff who tried to help him? Did he die full of hate, cursing everyone who didn't think like he did????

       Wow, you sound like you're really glad that guy is dead. It makes me sad that you believe any of that! You are making blind judgments with no knowledge of Islam and what it stands for or represents. Hell, I don't, but at least I've tried.
       
       That 70 virgins shit is exactly that, SHIT. Where did you hear that? Nobody ever remembers, but everyone "knows"! It's vile propaganda that has been accepted at face value, but let's find out how much we know. Here are some quotes from some of the most widely accepted Hadiths.
       
       Bukhari Volume 2, Book 23, Number 445:
       Narrated Jundab the Prophet said, “A man was inflicted with wounds and he committed suicide, and so Allah said: My slave has caused death on himself hurriedly, so I forbid Paradise for him.”
       Bukhari Volume 8, Book 73, Number 73:
       Narrated Thabit bin Ad-Dahhak: ”And if somebody commits suicide with anything in this world, he will be tortured with that very thing on the Day of Resurrection.
       
       Hadiths are cool and all, but what does the Qu'ran say?
       
       But let there be amongst you Traffic and trade by mutual good-will: Nor kill (or destroy) yourselves: for verily God hath been to you Most Merciful!
       If any do that in rancour and injustice,- soon shall We cast them into the Fire: And easy it is for God.
       Qur’an 4:29 - 4:30
       
       In the Gharib Hadiths (weak or strange Hadiths) we do find something about 72 wives but not virgins.
       
       Sunan al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2562 says:
       The Prophet Muhammad was heard saying: “The smallest reward for the people of Paradise is an abode where there are 80,000 servants and 72 wives, over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine, and ruby, as wide as the distance from Al-Jabiyyah [a Damascus suburb] to Sana’a [Yemen]”
       
       This is a weak Hadith that has no Sanad — line or sequence of narration. It's not a required Muslim text. If this guy was willing to light himself on fire after he had already been stopped, this guy didn't want to live. We see crazy wackos who kill multiple people and claim that the Christian God told them to do it and we don't give Big Dog God any crap, you blame it on the PERSON who is RESPONSIBLE. Some nut extremist Islam terrorists do the same and Muhammed and his whole bunch get shafted; we put the responsibility on the entire religion, and as a result, the entire race.
       
       I'm sorry I got a little worked up, seriously, but are any of those thoughts what God would want you thinking about him? Would our buddy Jesus want you to spread such blaspheme and lies? Jesus was legit, he was cool with everyone, and people who can't be cool with everyone - are not being cool. Seriously if you'd have walked a mile in that burnt up kids' shoes you'd have a whole different perspective; claiming you know anything about that is subjective bologne. So be cool. Sorry I lost my cool for a sec but it's for the good of global coolness (where everyone is cool with everyone else)

          While I don't disagree with challenging common perceptions, please be careful when building arguments upon single English translations of certain words and phrases. Many English texts, for instance, translate 4:29 along the lines of "Do not kill your people" or "Do not kill one another," preferring not to dangle an ambiguous word like "yourselves" out there. Someone who relied on those texts would definitely have a different understanding than yours, and even person reading the same text could just as easily interpret the word "yourselves" to mean "your people".
          
          Likewise, I wouldn't recommend hastily distinguishing the word "wives" from "virgins". I don't know Arabic well enough to analyze the underlying word, but considering that a number of religions or cultures have historically expected a wife to be a virgin, I'd recommend doing some careful study here.
          
          Fortunately your argument relies on more than just these points, but you don't want to weaken your presentation through the error of eisegesis.

             Actually, with regards to "virgins" my understanding is the Arabic word, "houri" I believe, is very similar for the word for a specific kind of white grape which is a great delicacy. "Virgin" is therefore believed by some scholars to be quite a wild mistranslation.

    In the UK all the recent terror attacks have failed due to terrorists making bombs that didn't work.
    
    I was wondering if maybe Google have set up false results for the search "bomb making" and "how to build a bomb" with pages that show you how to make bombs that don't work!

       JV - curious thought about Google. My first response was - nice idea if Google sending out false bomb making results. But on second thoughts - would that be a no win situation for the rest of us. Is the messenger writing the message? If true, what else is Google ( or any other search engine) attempting to manipulate? The internet and/or the world wide web is not a democracy in the true sense. We of the virtual community are not enfranchised to demolish powerful hierarchies which control or seek to control our access to information or the quality of the information we receive. I worry about Google and China for instance.
