I'm sure many aren't that interested in this type of concert, and probably think its somewhat silly - even so I just happen to turn on Vh-1 and catch a bit of it.  I never really got into Elton John before but I must say he is really good!!!!

Now I can understand why he sold so many records all those years.

I was pretty impressed by the other performers as well - but then I tend to like a lot of music from the uk - whether it is pop or alternative!!!!! (Theres something magical about music from the uk for me)

Great to see that some of my favorites of the past were also those of Princess Diana! (Josephs Amazing Technocolor Dreamcoat, Sarah Brightman, Duran Duran)

Also I thought it was great that the money made from this concert was donated to Princess Diana's favorite charities.

Here is the bbc link that gives a run down of who performed and what the concert was about :

Well we watched the concert (on BBC1) despite our misgivings and thoroughly enjoyed it. Mainly for Rod Stewart ( he is the man!) Wasn't "Sailing" so appropriate?! But also liked Brian Ferry, Lily Allen, Fergie, Take That. And P Diddy was especially brilliant. Sadly we thought Elton John was tedious and heavy going for us who have been bored by him for years. Also hated the silly intros from forgettable people. Coming so soon after Glastonbury, a hard act to follow, it did OK. But the princes have to remember, that however sweet their mama was, they are where they are on sufference from an English republican view. From my experience of "Royal" events, I would lay bets that the majority of the audience was there for the acts not for Diana.

        I would agree with that.

I liked P Diddy too - but I always have. Funny that I also liked Take That and Im not one to be into boy bands. You didnt care for Elton Johns performance? See I haven't ever really watched him perform a concert so I was really surprised at how much I do like his music.

I thought it was pretty good, it was nice to see everyone enjoying themselves and remembering Diana for all the good she did. It was good to see the two princes having a good time too.

I watched it! I thought Sailing was wonderful and Rod Stewart was generally good. I thought Elton John was a bit tedious, I was surprised, he's usually good at events like this. P Diddy was amazing. Take That, well, they are good and don't really count as a boy band these days. The two who surprised me were Josh Groban and Sarah Brightman, I thought they sang the song really well.

LBP it lasted for hours and hours live on BBC1... I switched channels during some of the intros. But it still felt like a marathon and I am now very sleepy.

That was great! As a classically trained pianist, Elton can do amazing things with his two instruments, piano and voice. Did you ever see him on the Actor's Studio? Really interesting interview about his early training in classical music, his great love for rock and roll musicians, living in a tiny flat with Bernie Taupin and never writing a song together in the same room after all these years, his drug and alcohol addiction and recovery, etc. He's lived a bright and colorful life, made lots of friends and enemies, and even danced on a disco floor with the queen!

Was he on Inside the Actor's Studio? I love Lipton's interviews, so I'll have to keep my eyes open for that one.

Speaking of pianists, did you see the one with Hugh Laurie performing his song, "Mystery"?

I enjoyed watching most of the acts, and the ones that stuck out for me were Josh Groban, Rod Stewart, Tom Jones, and Elton John. It was funny on BBC1 to see the difference in personality between the princes. On the one hand, you have William willing to stand up and clap and dance and do the wave for any performer, even the ones from an older generation that really wouldn't be deemed especially "in" with young people, like Rod Stewart, but of course William seemed happy to support the bands they felt were special to his mother and still are to her generation and their children. Now Harry, on the other hand, really seemed more concerned with his image and looking foolish if he got too into it, and there were lots of shots of him laughing at his dorky older brother making an effort to get into the more emotional side (slowly waving hands in the air for Rod's last song). You could really see that William does take his position seriously and you could also see a real brotherly dynamic between the princes. And I'd forgotten Diana died so young, only 36! She'd lived lifetimes before her death. For me, Ricky Gervais, and his introduction by Ben Stiller, was hilarious and one of the major highlights of the show.

What can I say? Second rate sound engineers who'd obviously fallen asleep. Elton John seemed to totally forget what the concert was about and used it to sing a song about himself (Tiny Dancer) and show a video of his own life story (Tiny Dancer). Best bits Natasha Beddingfield, Rod Stewart and Lilly Allen... But above all..The best bit by miles ... that moron Ricky Gervais dying on his fat ****

I wasn't interested in the concert as i didn't like diana. I didn't liek her when she was alive, nor did my opinion change with her untimely and sad death. It is sad that she died yet i am fed up the back teeth of hearing about her the past ten years, they should show respect to her children and let her rest in peace. Also Paul the butler is the slime on the rock which diana mentions, i am so glad he isn't my confident. Ps i know the sons put the concert on and i respect they did it in memory for their mother i was just ranting about the media

I thought I knew a lot about the royal family before someone close to me who lives in the uk told me things about them i never knew.

I really think that the media over here presents them differently than the way the british media does.

I used to think Prince Charles wasn't a very good person, but then I found out about his environmentalism and how his marriage to Princess Diana was somewhat arranged.

Lastly, did people in the UK see the reception that Queen Elizabeth got when she visited America earlier this summer? People that greeted her (there were many) were even dressed in those funky hats!!!!

Americans seem to have a love for the royal family.

She was the peoples princess and the people did her proud.
As for the princes, they rock.
Diana would have been proud of her sons.
                              Long live royalty.

What is the function of the royal family? i.e. What do they get paid so much money for?
To my understanding, they have no say, whatsoever, in how the country is run?
In this day and age, wouldn't you class them as, I don't know, obsolete?

Hmm interesting question, what is the function of the royal family, well first of all they are ambassodors for britian, also without the queen signeture no new laws can be passed, The queen is also a figurehead of the commonwealth and the head of the church. That is my understanding of it, saying that i could be wrong. Now what is her family functions, well i always branded them as clowns in a circus, because most of them are a big joke. And Diana was not the people princess, she was never my princess nor any other people princess i know, blair stated that (in september)to gain popularity after his landslide victory in may. The a lot more people i admire more then her, ie fergie and zara

Anything she does, she does with instructions from the government.
I just googled her duties. There is nothing of great significance there.
She is ambassador for Britain? Hey, why not hire, get this, an ambassador for Britain?
                                        Let’s call a spade a spade!
Don't get me wrong, people love her, and she is probably ok to invite to the barbeque tomorrow, but her duties and responsibilities are transparent.

Hmmm i wonder what would be requirement to be the ambassador for britian, hmm frilly hats, cucumber sandwiches making skills. I actually honestly think and again it is my own opinion that the queen does a lot more then what people and google think she does. Not all of what she does is instructed by the government thankfully the our government ain't in total control. But let go off topic, because its obvious that we won't fully agree on whether the queen is needed in this country. Who do think that could be a great ambassador for britian? And ginger spice is not accepted its bad enough she was a goodwill ambassador for, is it the un, i for these lil details.

Maybe we should have a Celebrity Love Monarch Academy Island Survivor Idol competition.
