It all started last weekend when I helped my mate stalk Justin Timberlake for a magazine he's writing for. So, yes yes, we saw him. Didnt actually speak to him though since his bodyguard was way too big and scary to surpass. yikes.
So then, on Tuesday I went to Cork to see the Flaming Lips. Man they were so good live. They throw such a great party. Orange balloons galore!
Wednesday we went to The Rock of Cashel to be tourists for the day.
Then Thursday I had a job interview. Longest interview ever...took 1 and a half hours. eeks.
So then on Friday I was settling down to thinking I wasnt going to be doing much for the weekend until, my mate rang me, told me to pack my bags, he got me a media VIP pass for Oxegen. For those of you who don't know what Oxegen is: its one of the best music festivals in the world.
So, Saturday I went to see:
Avril Lavigne, Delorentos, Justice, 2 Many DJs, Muse (best set ever!), Kings of Leon (they've all chopped their hair except for the drummer, sigh), Air and well I just can't recall who else. But it was great.
And on Sunday:
Bloc Party, CSS, DJ Shadow, The Cold War Kids, Arcade Fire, and Daft Punk.
IT WAS THE BEST WEEK EVER!

Was JT supercute in real life?
Why do we assume that stars are like supernatural beings? They are just like us, only with fame and an entourage, and usually lots of money, yet we worship them and expect them to be ten feet tall. Kinda strange.
Despite what you hear in the rabid right-wing media, most everyone I worked with either flat-out Republicans or fairly conservative Democrats, and there wasn't a socialist in the house, so whether a correspondent was pro-choice or pro-life, they were still pro-global, unregulated, laissez faire, "free-market" capitalists.
But there was one guy, a living journalistic legend (since passed away), intelligent, witty, well-spoken, who fit the mythic image I had created of him perfectly, except for one thing: he absolutely stank of whiskey and cigars, constantly!!!
As for radio, well I have mostly been disappointed by those in the limelight - I do think one fella (who i consider a mentor) is exceptionally good at what he does - n he doesn't have an overblown ego like many do.
I worked in a section of a tv station too and met some people but thought they all looked pretty much the same as my expectations.
Good on you though - my friend is just back up from Oxegen - said the mud was pretty bad!!
In fact, I did at one stage get stuck in the mud, the mud was so deep it went past my wellies in one spot and 2 of my mates had to pull me out. I later proceeded to fall face down in the mud as my balance was worsening due to a steady alcohol intake over the weekend!
Always wear clothes you can just throw away when going to Oxegen.
i so wanted to go!!! so oxegen was awesome eh? you going to reading?
lcd soundsystem is fookin groovy! but im afraid the smashing pumpkins are not what they used to be. i dont think darcy is back with the band, likewise the fella she used to date in the band is also absent. at least this is what i saw when i watched Live Earth.
used to play them all the time when i was a dj
A nice lookin' gal stepped in and stood beside me. She asked me how I was doing, I said ok, and yourself, she said she was doing fine too.
Anyway, we got to the lobby and I went to the concierge desk and she walked out the front door.
I said to the doorman, 'hey, she looks like Rene Zelwegger'.
You can only guess what he said.
I could have had a nice chat with her during the few minutes in the elevator, but I thought she was just another broad.
Damn.
I've met a few more, but that's another days story!
I've had a number of encounters with celebrities in my life, and it's usually wasted on me since it's often someone I don't know, don't recognize or couldn't care less about.
The most exciting was at age 5 when I met Kermit the Frog (with Jim Henson's hand stuck up his... well, anyway, it's no wonder Kermit says it's not easy being green).
my favorites are the two old dudes in the balcony hahaha
Hey you know AdGuy always gets the last word! ;)
