In a year or two if I am still in the USA (I may be making plans to move to the UK, don't know yet!) I will need to buy a new car.
If I have to have a car, I want a hybrid! This picture is of a Toyota Prius. Everywhere I go I see more and more people with them - and I must say - I am a little envious. Not because it is such a good looking car - but because of how much it saves on gas!!!
My aunt bought one and got an excellent deal in California - she donated her old car to charity and got a huge tax break. Then she got a tax break again, because hybrids guzzle less gas and are therefore better for the environment! She saved money all the way around!
I think SUV's and other big gas guzzling monsters are on the way out the door (plus they don't fit well into parking spaces, especially parallel parking - have you ever had to park next to a Hummer? forget about it!)
If I have to buy a new car in the next year or two, I am thinking a hybrid is the way to go.
Any Woyanoer with a hybrid?

- Diesel engines get better gas mileage
- Diesel engines last a lot longer
- The new ultra-low sulphur diesel in the US burns very cleanly -- especially when used in cars with new emission systems (like Mercedes Blue-Tec)
- Diesel engines emit significantly lower CO2 than gasoline engines
- When used with biodiesel, things get even better -- fewer emissions, renewable energy, etc.
- The energy returns on biodiesel are far greater than the production of ethanol
European countries have a big jump on the US with diesel. I can't wait to get more here. GM is planning on having diesel in their US lineup (in passenger cars) starting in 2010.
:)
Awesome that your dad did this. I hope it works out for him. I've been making test batches of BD in my garage from used cooking oil. Hope to go full scale soon. (By full-scale, I mean enough to run my car on).
they are trying to push through some reductions on the regulations (go figure) on soybean oil that would make it less for consumption and more for fuel- if they could do that- the prices could go down
you compared them to regular vehicles
im sold!
Here's a link I just found that pretty much reaffirms everything I just said:

- 0 to 60 in 4 seconds
- 135 mpg equivalent
- 200 miles per charge
- less than 2 cents per mile
OK -- but you need 100K right now to buy one. That cost will come down in the future for electric cars. I want one!!!
