BBC promo dialogue for Heroes: "Heroes, the top-rating new series for the coveted 18 to 49 year old age group in America this season, is to be screened on BBC Two next year."

Well that counts me out then. But the BBC is correct! Anyone under 18 and over 49 wld see it for the rubbish it is. What a let down, what disappointment.

I have been an SF fan since 10 yrs old. Have heard, watched and read most everything. Even attended SF Conventions ( not trekkies) serious stuff with the most influential writers. What is this Heroes crap? Like Lost only worse.Where are the SF writers of yesteryear?

Ah so you, too, gave in to temptation (I watched both episodes). I was disappointed, but shouldn't have been, I suppose. (I hadn't noticed the 18-49 thing, that might have prepared me for it.)
It may though not be worse than Lost, I didn't manage to watch even one episode of that all the way through.
(Where are the SF shows of yesteryear? They could at least re-run Quatermass.)

Ah - Quatermass! We have the bound scripts. Treading carefully here, did you ever listen to " Journey into Space"?

You guys don't like Heroes?!?! I'm a comic book/super hero fan, and although Heroes isn't exactly like what I'd expect for a show about people with super powers, I still really enjoy it. What I like most is how the story is told and how all the character stories cross each other. If you guys watching are on the BBC and only seem to be on the second episode, then I would suggest you keep with it. I'm sure you will start to like it after the next few episodes. If not then I guess it can't be for everyone.

Yes it is just 2 episodes, both shown this evening. So I suppose as the 'plot' progresses I might get caught up in it, but right now, :(

I really enjoyed the first series of Heroes. It is just silly fun and they don't try to be too serious! I watched the first episode again on the BBC the other day and I was surprised to see how "old" it felt. The story moves on pretty fast and it does get better.

But it is not serious Sci-Fi, so it will not measure up if that's the yardstick you are using. If you want serious Sci-Fi then I would direct you to the recent incarnation of Battlestar Gallactica. Now THAT has to be one of the darkest Sci-Fi series in ages. Really well written and not afraid to kill off main characters (always a good sign if you ask me!).

Well, me, I love "Heroes." For one thing, I like the humor. After all, it's "comic book" not sci-fi. It's a fun-type modern fantasy _ and for once, it's one that isn't set in pseudo-medieval druid-enrobed myth and magic or in elf-and-dragon Neverendinglyland. Awwww, geee, y'all prolly didun like Batman, either, too!

What do you mean, " and for once, it's one that isn't set in pseudo-medieval druid-enrobed myth and magic or in elf-and-dragon Neverendinglyland" what the hell is that crap? I'm talking grown up science fiction not fantasy or sword and scorcery. If that is your bench mark then I won't be bothering watching any further episodes of Heroes. Though veddam had almost persuaded me to give it another chance...

Not a benchmark. I prefer my science-fiction to include science, as apparently do you. "Heroes" is sci-fi only in a very loose way, if at all. I must say, though, that I once defeated a wraith, an ghoul and a third force from the dark side all in one day IRL. I learned of my triumph only afterward from a expert who was my roomie at the time; else I'd never have set out on such a quest ....

Jekyll is excellent - James Nesbitt is shamelessly hamming up the role but it makes for some great Sat night TV

Hmm, I have acquired some of the later shows of heroes, it does get better folks. It is not sci-fi though, so sci fans don't watch if you want space ships and hammed up acting like Blakes 7 or the equally bad Star Trek . There are no rubber monsters, crappy fight scenes or the man in the red shirt that you know is just going to die. This is definately more down to earth, with more human emotion coming to the fore, characters confused by what is happening to them, a sociopath hunting them down and a mysterious government agency coming to get them all. It's more X-files than Star Wars folks, get over it.

Vadagh, sci fi isn't (only) space ships and hammed up acting, it's also Quatermass, X-Files, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, etc.. (And Heroes.) I suppose people simply like different kinds of sci fi.

Heroes is awesome! Taking normal people and putting them into extraordinary circumstances with these "powers" that they inherit through a genetic mutation- but not like the Xmen- Its got a great series of sub plots and stories and keeps you guessing as to who is going to meet up with whom and what will happen when they do. Very twisty and highly entertaining- for my 2 Kc (still in Prague)

Clemmati- I know I just said that to get a raise from folks who are a little narrow minded in their sci - fi (purists(sad wierdo's) in rubber suits going to conventions speaking languages that don't exist for example). I like most comic book style stuff aswell, Sin City was an awesome peice of filmwork but was it sci-fi or comic book? (both I think)
Lost is underpants(miss a couple of episodes and your knackered), Prison break is great. Have any of the yanks seen the new Doctor Who series or Torchwood(new spin off), pure sci fi from my childhood is Doctor Who complete with rubber monsters and angry sea weed- classic hammed up acting but terrifying to a 5 year old hiding behind the sofa cushions and yelling for his dad.

sorry vadagh -- you were very convincing :) -- thanks for replying pleasantly.

I think a comic book can be sci-fi (I used to read my brother's Dan Dare comics!) and I thought what Veddam said about comic book/superhero and Heroes was really interesting -- I'll see how it goes...

Yes, Lost is underpants, I think one episode knackered me. Doctor Who is on TV in the US now and Torchwood will be soon. I watched the old Doctor Who but as I'm older, it was Quatermass that had me hiding, it was terrifying. I do still watch Doctor Who but I don't always like it -- Family of Blood was great.
