When I was younger... pre-cable... I didn't have cable right away in life... my mother still doesn't have it... so I never had cable till I moved in with my father as a teen-ager.. anyhow.. the point was... as I kid.. .I like to build things... but you didn't find me running into the wild to cut down trees and build extentions on the house! The pre-cable days for me... all I had was normal TV... and a few UHF stations... and a PBS station... in philly it's called WHYY, they produced a lot of NPR's content... anyhow... so to my point... I think I have a point... I don't know... I need sleep.
Anyhow... so years ago... the crack that would hook me was... Justin Cookin' (boy did that guy have magical measuring cup hands), Julia Child, Bob Ross (the white afro'd painter guy who always made happy trees and bushes and mountains), Bob Vila... Ye OLD House... I have no interest in building patio benches.. but when that show comes on... I stop.. and I'm fixated.
Now what's funny about this... is one day my grand father, my father and I ...were flipping through the TV.. we all wanted to watch something different... but as soon as we flipped on PBS.. and saw Bob Vila.. .you couldn't pull any of us away until the marathon was done.
...and now tivo has slaved me once again.. with "Flip this House" and "Cities of the Underground", "Ancient Discoveries", "Modern Marvels", and "Myth Busters"... ahh edumatainment... where would thy be without you!
As much as I like watching those shows... you'll never find me buying them on DVD. I don't know why... but as long as they fill void in my life through tivo, I'm happy to watch them and be forced to be educated... err I mean... edumatated.
I will admit I like watching cooking shows as well... and yes they always make me hungry and want to cook... but the problem is. they always make me hungry... and want to cook... !!
So I guess my question to you... is what kind of edumatainment crack do you watch?
Unfortunately... even though Bob Ross is dead.. his company is all over YouTube... so none of the vids listed in search work... so I bring you this!
