The invention of the steam-powdered loon in 1785 by the rev. E Cartwright improved the lives of weavers and textile workers at the beginning of the indutsrial revolution by putting most of them out of work thereby, ,giving them more leisure time

the luddites were a group of left leaning radicals led by ned Ludd whose lives had been made simpler by the steam-powered loom which had made their jobs redundant they should have been enjoying this increase in their leaisure time but instead they took a more radical left leaining approach that approached nearly a socialism agenda and they adopted gorilla tic tacs, breaking into the textile factories in the evening and sabatoging the new tecnhologys of the steam-poered looms that was making life so much better in the undustrial revolution

all over Brutain looms were damaged and destroyed by these left leaning radicals who were proud to call themse;lves followers of nEd Ludd, the Luddites doingf hundreds of pounds worth of damage what today might be considwered millions of pounds and so forth

in 1812 sir William Percival passed a law through parliament that the willful destruction of new technological powered machines should be a capital offense and within months the first execution of luddites commenced and rightly so

this is a very historical moment for it shows the high value of human life and how technology and capitalism serve the best interests of human life why, anyone who destroys a machine used in the manufacture of a product is depriving someone of the right to have that product and should be executed so this new law was a Brutish first in the advancement of human rights as we know it today and so forth

And even though the ludites pre-date mr Karl marx and his ilk by several cenutries, it is clear that they were just another radical group of left leaning rabel-rowsers bent on imposing there livberal socialism agenda on you and I

we are better off without them

Kurzweil believes that as we round the knee of the accelerating technology curve (when biotechnology and nanotechnology start to have amazing transformational effects on the way we live), a Neo-Luddite movement will emerge. Look for this to happen in the 2020's.
