Think Outside the Bottle Campaign

Think Outside the Bottle Campaign. Coke, Pepsi and Nestlé make up over half of the US bottled water market.  They are using tap water and selling it back to us at 1,000’s of times the cost of tap water.  They have turned a shared common resource into a $100 billion global market. Water bottles are made from natural gas and petroleum.  It takes about 1.5 million barrels of oil to make the water bottles we use each year, which could fuel 100,000 cars a year.  Only 23% of the bottles are recycled and along with transporting this heavy product, the impact is immense.  At the U.S. Conference of Mayors this summer, mayors passed a resolution that shines a spotlight on the true environmental costs of bottled water and some are banning bottled water from their buildings.  Restaurants are also joining the movement to protect public water, proudly serving municipal tap water in lieu of bottled water.  For ourselves, if we are worried, we can use a filter on our tap at home and for travel, we can get a stainless steel water bottle that can be refilled.   www.stopcorporateabuse.org/cms/

At last people are taking notice! Coke tried introducing their Dasani tapwater in the UK and were forced to pull out very rapidly.

Well yes but it wasn't just tap water -- which they advertised as though it couldn't be tap water, of course -- it was also contaminated (it had illegally high levels of bromate). But it is good that people outside the UK are taking notice now.
