In case you missed it, this is John Pilger's latest excellent documentary on the USA's recent dubious history in South America.
Includes excellent coverage of the coup attempt against Chavez in Venezuela, and how it was stage-managed.
Highly recommended viewing.

it is doubtful most americans know that he was targeted for assasination

likewise - the extreme righties seem to think that chavez just dislikes the usa government for the fun of it

It's well worth taking the time to watch it. Especially if you're one of those people that labour under the misapprehension that the US government is exclusively a force for good in this world.
Raping nuns. That's what they're good for.

i used to be under that notion when i was a kid growing up in the usa being taught that columbus sailed the blue seas and was a hero who founded the new world, that the pilgrims and native americans were best friends and worked together in peace. then i got to high school and university where i learned that everything that had been taught to me as a kid was bullcrap. that the natives were slaughtered for their land. that columbus and his crew took people from the "new world" as slaves.

now as i watch what is happening around the world and see the genocide in the sudan while the usa government has waged war in iraq, its obvious that my government is only concerned with its' bizarre interests and not those of human beings.

        Interesting, though not surprising.
