I was pleasantly suprised to see this on the new shelves of the library and immediately picked it up. His first novel introducing Joe DeMarco was refreshingly fun.

Joe is still the son of a New York mobster, a lawyer without a firm, an ex-con and fix it man for the Speaker of the House (not being into politics USA style I think thats the No.3 in line for the throne in Yankland).Sent by some political mucky mucks to investigate a whining relatives claim that a naval yard is being defrauded, Joe and sidekick Emma(ex DIA operative) soon realise they have stumbled onto something much larger.

As the plot unwinds and the sinister machinations of Mei Li, one of  Emmas previous adversaries become more clear the scale of espionage becomes apparent. The Chinese government has let loose an operative without scruples to obtain US nuclear secrets, submarines and ships could be compromised all over the world if she succeeds.

Joe soon realises he is out of his depth, he doesn't really know one end of a gun from the other, politics with menaces is more his style, not James Bond and Mission Impossible. Emmas skills and former colleagues come to help but when Emma is kidnapped can Joe save the day?

I tried not to give too much away in the intro for this one, but the book really was alot of fun. A good thriller with politics, guns and spies all rolled into one book. You can't go wrong in my opinion. Nothing too heavy for the uninformed on US politics and not too high on the body count either.

Overall a good yarn for all, I hope you take the time to check it out.
