Generally speaking, I don't mind the Google ads elsewhere on these pages. They are small, they load quickly, one can ignore them readily enough, and there's nothing too wrong with finding ways to capitalize on a project _ especially since one doesn't have to contribute and can quit any time.
Now, however, it seems to me that what has been a nuisance has become an intrusion that to me raises questions as to the appropriateness of continuing to contribute posts. That even this complaint will be surrounded by such ads seems adding injury to insult.

just out of interest...are the webmasters tryin to get google to buy the site in one of them billion dollar deals we read about?
ahhhh...it does float beneath..... nice work, that -- stays well within adsense's terms however *l* must agree, the sandwich ads are intrusive
All thoughts on this are welcome.

That, graeme, was not a great experience. Why can't the posting boxes be as accommodating as the comment boxes, and if they can't be, why can't they accept html?
(OK it finally worked but it's unclear how. Perhaps a posting box FAQ?)
We have had a discussion at the office about this and have a proposal, so please let us know what you think about this.
What we propose is to remove the ad at the top of the content if you are logged in to Woyano, however for people who have just landed on Woyano via Google search we propose to leave it on.
So basically regulars wont see the add at the top, and others will.
We could also apply the same logic to adguy if you feel strongly about this.
Please let us know what you would like to do!
Cheers,
JV
p.s. The reason why we put it there is because it was a source of revenue, and putting it in the content increases the amount it earns.
As for AdGuy: I think that's a nuisance and is ineffective, and sometimes even is laughable, but ads at the end are far less intrusive. As for why you put them various locations, of course it's for the money, and that's understandable. However, it seems to me that placement must be weighed against becoming counterproductive by reducing site use/acceptance..
Incidentally, I'm seeing increased use of practices similar to yours elsewhere; perhaps it's becoming pervasive. I think people soon learn merely to ignore them, however _ that such littering of all spaces reduces their effectiveness. Wonder if someone's done a study?
making it look like another "person" is distracting..
I say count your lucky stars. There's no castle media pop ups for example! I hate those! I have a friend who works for double click dot com... who've now been taken over by google incidentally. Their ads can be a pain. This site does load slowly however, so something must be causing that, but I don't imagine it is adverts.
A suggestion : Create the option for a signature for each member, which is used only at the end of a topic they post/add, (not in replies to topics though), so that the format makes the ads after the content posted by the user obviously something other than a user contribution. That way it is easily discernible where the user input post ends, and the ads which are there are obviously not placed nor endorsed by the contributee. This way JV n co still get x amount of ads per page, and newbies / passers through can differentiate.
There is also another idea... the actual "page" we read, only constitutes ummm.. about 2/7ths of the screen space. The ads could go at either side, currently taken up with grey tone shading, while the "page" could be scrollable like in html frames...
Hope this input adds to the mixer!
I'll keep you updated about this issue and let you know when we've made the logged/in out issue.
The ads have been removed off the top of the page for logged in users. We moved them to the top of the site instead.
Is this ok?
Cheers,
JV
