In 2000, Frank Luntz, the important Republican pollster, advised the Bush Administration to make sure the public felt there were still questions about global warming. If the public learned that the facts on global warming were final, Republicans would loose in the next election. He advised them to find global warming deniers and bring them in to debate and question the validity of the science. The Administration complied, (going so far as to change scientific papers being released to the public), even though Luntz now says publicly he believes man-made global warming exists. Exxon Mobil is still paying deniers, even though other gas companies are seeing dollar signs and branching out into alternative energies.
The Ken Burns PBS TV documentary on World War II makes the point that when the war started, there weren't enough tanks and planes. What did President Roosevelt do? He brought in the Chicago car manufacturers and told them he needed them to make these machines immediately. They said they would do their best to fit them in while making cars. He told them that they didn't understand, that he needed those tanks and planes immediately. So he issued legislation that stopped them making cars until the war was over. And that is what happened. Those factories built tanks and planes 24 hours a day and we won the war. We need the same sort of determination from our Administration now. It would be a wonderful bonus to our economy.

Assuming that this instance the determination would be orientated around man made global warming, it seems obvious to me you already DO have such an administration. Man made global warming doesn't exist, neither did WMD in Iraq. The information people work on is orientated around an action which they wish to get from it, I.e. build a connection from the objective, backwards to current situation, proclaim that there is then evidence to support this claim, however tenuous, and then act upon it!

Can't get people to do as they're asked? Then force them! Sounds a little like a dictatorship to me.
"If the public learned that the facts on global warming were final, Republicans would loose in the next election." So... select what the pubic is allowed to hear, not for the good of the people, but for the good of the government.
Yup.. good public relations there.
Aside from my assertions that man made global warming is a myth ( not actual global warming.. that does exist as a natural cycle), take a look at what is being said there, rather than just blindly saying "oh yes that sounds like positive action". What's happening is deception and dictatorship through restricting the public's access to information, and force re : legislation.
As for the economy... does anyone really ever think that it will balance? It's not designed to! No country's economy is, if the governments actually want to be able to tax people.
Hey you know AdGuy always gets the last word! ;)
