Well folks Jeff Lindsay is one is definitely on my favourite authors list now, the first two books were impressive, this just confirmed him on my Xmas wish list.

Dexter is a forensic blood spatter analyst working for the crime lab in Miami, CSI - the ginger one!!- I hear you cry. Nope, no where near. Dexter is also a normal loving fiancee, about to become an adoptive parent to the Mrs's kids from a former marriage. Normal, average working guy, good to his work colleagues, buys doughnuts for the office etc, etc.....

Dexter is also a serial killer, a considerate one. Concientious, clean, efficient and has a thoroughly wholesome approach to killing people. With his " Dark Passenger" guiding him to targets, his job - gives him access to all sorts of databases and meticulous research into his victims lives, he stalks without fear.

But at one scene something disturbs him, his "passenger" flees and he is left floundering something is not right. The victims are both burnt, and their heads removed replaced by ceramic bull heads. The scene is clean of spatter, so why is something inside him switching into paranoid overload , is he being followed and what has spooked his "passenger"?

Dexter is doubting his abilities and something is spooking his new family, can he solve the puzzle before it kills him?

I defy you to not like Dexter, the character is beautifully written, the style completely unique and the prose darkly humours real thought processes. Go on pick up this series, Dexter only kills the bad guys, thats good isn't it......... ?

Darkly Dreaming Dexter and Dearly Devoted Dexter preceed this novel. try them in order and get a feel for the character.

I dunno- no cable or satellite, some of us UK plebs make do with signal fires and jungle drums.

But I believe so, but how do you make a series when only 3 books have been published??

Yes, there's a series. It's on FX here. (I have tin cans and string TV, vadagh!, Freeview, FX is pay TV, I think. )

Perhaps I'll try the books though they sound a bit too gory for me.
