This story chonicles the early stage of Temujin's life on the steppes(Mongolia).
Temujin's life is good, his brothers are loyal and fierce, his father khan of the wolf clan. Life is still full of a few mysteries to young Temujin, what did his older brother do in his year away with his mothers clan? , why is his younger brother a better horseman? and his youngest brother so fat?... all is well and he goes off to do his gap year with his mothers clan to find his betrothed, a fierce wild child called Borte. The year with her clan is going to be brutal, they hate him, but he is stong and will survive.
Tragedy strikes and Temujin and family are left alone on the steppes with nothing, not even a bow or blanket. The steppes are harsh, unforgiving and family comes first. Will they survive?
Obviously but how did he do it? and what circumstances forced this carefree boy into one of histories greatest leaders and biggest butchers?
The answer to some of these mysteries will unfold over the first few pages, and the rest I will leave for you to discover.
All I can saw is whay hay!!! I loved this book, I could not put it down. I turned off the mobile phone, ignored the door and I even taped CSI night on TV so I could keep reading without interruption..... an epic book.
Anyway back on track, it flows beautifully, allowing you smell the horse sweat on the ink. The hidden violence lurking beneath the surface of the pages will make you look over your shoulder, the blood almost drips from the paper. Interwoven with this is a poignant love story, and a fierce family loyalty that make men want to hug, and sing beer songs... a magnificent start to his next epic.
Well written by a master story crafter, intricately researched and left with a beautiful cliff hanger.
Going into details on this book would be a waste, just read it.
