What I want to bring out is some of the ( recent ) largest "untruths" if you will... that we have been forced to accept.
Statements by Political figures or big media or any other force that we feel we have come to accept only because the world has.

Also what do you think are some of the most important statements that have influenced us today.

Yeah I feel people need to be careful of statements like the above. There are a lot of people who wouldn't question that, but obviously by doing so set themselves up for immense self doubt in the chance encounter with failure post trying hard enough.
Heres where I can trace a thought pattern in you because after this statement you go on to say people get what they deserve and the world is a fair place! I agree with you they need to accept it's not! The world needs a dose of reality and children should be brought up in reality and not stories and fantasies to placate them momentarily.

The reason I posed this question is because I'm writing a feature for a magazine along similar lines. Focusing more on specific statements made by individuals. Yeah Iraq is up there.

The biggest lies that I take in consideration.
        USA untruths
        Politics are actually good people
        Politics help us
Politics tell the truth (the biggest lie ever)
Nicotine is not addictive (Why USA, WHY!!)
        World lies
Global Warming Maybe(still a debate for me, but I believe in it)
        Evolution is a lie
There aren't bad people near us.
        Adguy (Is AdGuy a bot?)
        That we need oil
That oil is the only choice
Other Stuff that I can't put in a sentence correctly
The car companies say they have made the best improvments, but that is the biggest load of bullshit ever!

Maybe I'm being cynical and just a little facetious but... re Emily's suggestions...

1: The worlds oil isn't in trouble, because it hasn't done anything naughty
2: There WONT be a third world war because none of the countries in the third world can afford arms and bombs and weapons.
4: Religions will accept each other! It's just the believers who don't!
5: World hunger will end! Generally in stavation and death.
6: Mass genocide will cease in Africa. For the answer to this... see No.5.

As for industries caring about the environment.... I struggled with anything imaginative with this one, and then i realised that i think the reason is... it's been so long since i heard anyone in industry state that they DO care about the environment, that I don't class it as an untruth at all, more of a myth or maybe folklore. However... I do know that folklore and myths are based on real beliefs but.. i can only assume we have come such a long way forward in our civilised ways that we have seen fit to leave such ludicrousness behind.

If I may indulge in the same facetious rhetoric...

1.I can think of a by products of oil/petroleum that have done many a thing naughty...
2.If the US "Arms" interest lobbies stay as strong and secretive as they are today...there will be enough of guns for every cowboy and other inhabitants of desert regions elsewhere...
              4.(3) Absolutely agree.
5.Your probably right again, until we see independent bodies taking a greater participatory role in administering relief and aid to see that it reaches the affected rather than into the hands of crazy African leaders, it will end in dire consequences.
6.Similar monitoring as (5) and speedier trials of guilty with immediate enforcement and no lengthy appeals procedures.

You realise that, and i know this won't actually happen, but, the removal of money, or the idea of currency and wealth, would negate almost all of the untruths aside from Esthers "if you try hard enough you can get anything you want?, people get what they deserve?, the world is a fair place?"? Almost all of the other untruths are orientated around money, and could be rectified were money not an issue.

I think, in my world, the one major untruth which affected me, who I am, and why I have become the person I have, is this little delight said by my parents

"You must be doing something to cause you to be bullied."

That has the same ring to it as people who say rape victims were asking for it, and both are about exercising power over another.

I think this is what has led me to investigate the human way of thinking, why we come to the conclusions we do, and how it is that people do not realise that, because we are infact just another animal species, our lives are still influenced and indeed governed at times by the same structures as our furrier cousins, be it pack mentality, survival of the fittest, or just the urge to pass our genes on (and i don't mean hand-me-down levi's!).

Actually, I'll add another. "I love you" That has to be one of the biggest lies perpetuated by people around the globe, and it is loaded with the ability to destroy far more effectively than any weapon around. Most people spouting this, don't love the person they say it to. They love the persona they have projected upon an individual, rather than what's actually there. Hence, Love can quickly become hate, when the illusion is no longer maintainable, and the person no longer fits into the skin of the persona.

              True, re: "I love you".
A lot of words and phrases today seem to have kudos levels of value if you will.. words like "Burn-out", ten years ago were associated with chronic mental illness, today it's overused and as a result has lost its value. Very, very scary thought if you feel "I love you" is heading in a similar direction.

I just read this thread now. AMS' thought about saying 'I love you' is interesting. A little too heavy for my mind to go into on a friday night, knackered after the week!
                  Here are my untruths:
Running away from your problems never solves anything
                  Any stupid national stereotype
Knowledge is power - if it was lots of people would be prime minister of the frickin world by now
Politicians care about anything other than the almighty euro/pound/dollar
Black leggings are flattering on everybody...
