I watched a film called 'Bent' today. It stars Clive Owen and Ian McKellen. I don't think I've ever seen a sadder film. Anyone who doesn't wipe a tear away at the end of it is definitely made of stone.
Having said that, it's definitely worth a look. The film tells the story of the gay Germans who were rounded up and sent to concentration camps along with the jews. It focuses on Maximilien, a carefree cad in pre-war Berlin who is forced to re-evaluate his life when he captured by the Nazis. As a love story, it is incredibly poignant. The two central performances are amazing.
I thought it was a brilliant vision of how freedom of expression can be supressed. It's also a reminder of all the different groupings who were murdered during the war and the horrific cruelty they endured.
