I spent ages trying to get this working properly. And finaly cracked it once I configured ALL of these variables correctly in php.ini
  • file_uploads
  • upload_max_filesize
  • max_input_time
  • memory_limit
  • max_execution_time
  • post_max_size
The cheeky one that messed me up for so long was max_input_time, it's set to 60 secs by default, you just need to up it to a big number.

Hope this helps!

Awesome JV - obvious when you see the list, but not so obvious when you think it's *your code* that's the problem, like your fighting with one hand tied if you don't consider the underlying variables in php.ini
