Well I looked at the cover and went Hmmmm?? , loudly it proclaims on the front   *Up there in the same league as Silence of the Lambs!! *. 'pretty big shoes to fill'....I mused and looked further, I dunno if I trust a book by someone called Chelsea...smells of perents trying too hard and bad teen films, oh well it's a slow month and I'll give it a go, I was so wrong ....eeek! it was great!

Meet Gretchen Lowell, beautiful, seductive, blond, with a body men break into a sweat over, the second brain normally kept in its trousers takes over mouth functions and strains for release from its zippered cage.......

Serial killer, butcher, sadist and much, much more.

We start the book with the realisation by the lead detective on this case that he has found who he's been looking for for the last ten years. Then fumbling for his gun, his hand does't work and he slumps to the floor drugged, waking up on a gurney with tubes coming out of him. He knows what is coming, all the previousy found victims have been systematically tortured over several days before dying in slow and painful ways.

Strangely enough , he doesn't die, she turns herself in after playing with him for 10 days........ it is now 2 years later....

Thus starts a strangely compelling book, the lead character Archie Sheridan is still on medical leave, the scars from his time with "the Beauty Killer" have still not healed and he is addicted to a plethora of prescription drugs. Now he is wanted again. Someone is abducting schoolgirls ... raping, strangling and dumping them all over Portland... they need his brain.

Reluctantly he agrees and enters the twisted mind of a paedophile killer and  realises this has links to his past, just how close they are to the bone will hurt....

I adored this book, from the get go you want to know more about Gretchen, but are left with just enough in snippets to keep you going as the main plot chugs along at a steady pace. The plot twists are not always predictable and quite slick. Supported by an emsemble of characters and the dogged little reporter with the pink hair.  The  book still revolves around the relationship between Gretchen and Archie with pin point precision... although how twisted it is .....you'll find out.

Please get over the authors unfortunate name and give this one a go, Gretchen Lowell is a masterful creation and should be appreciated by any who enjoy this genre. Overall I celebrated after finding this book and look forward to seeing Gretchen again.
