US GLIDER TROOPS IN ENGLAND
The presence in Britain after January 1942 of several million American troops, gave the Ministry of Information additional responsibilities smoothing and enhancing relations between the soldiers and their civilian hosts.
A campaign was launched to counter the general public view of the USA, being a country of luxury and lawlessness and unbridled capitalism, also strikes and delays. It was decided that the public should be reminded that the average American is a kind and honorable person, and that America was as concerned as Britain to defend democracy.
