It is now all clear for a referendum in Scotland, on the country becoming independent. The Scottish Labour leader has added her support for a vote. Most of England can't wait, the sooner the better.

The only worry is that the Scots might vote against, they could be concerned as to how they would exist without the English taxpayer, perhaps the referendum should be extended to include England, the result would be in no doubt then, goodbye Scotland.

There seems to be some disagreement about that.

Well... with oil (the amount of oil estimated to be available = the sum total of ALL the oil so far produced) and whisky being two of the top 5 major exports in the uk, I think England needs Scotland far more than Scotland needs England. Back in 2003 Scottish distilling industry was contributing £1.6 billion in duty and tax to the UK Exchequer. Along with it's producton of electricity gas and oil and funnily enough PC's (28% of all of europes) as a basis, some say Scotlands economy would not only prosper, but probably out do the english one, not least because I find it highly unlikely they'd be spending countless billions on a war that doesn't exist! (something the politicians agree with) With a population of only 5.5million, a lower unemployment rate than most of Europe, opinion is devided as to if an independent Scotland would be economically viable, unionists saying no.. everyone else saying Yes. Personally, if it gets the scots away from attitudes like Starrman's i'm betting they'd take an extra 2p in the pound incometax and be thankful that their money has gone to a good cause!
