this 3 minute charge speech below is pretty good.
Here's Randy's personal page. He's rather funny and charming,
and so proud of his little achievements... yet he's really very
humble and appreciative.
He's dying of pancreatic cancer, so he has a very special insight
on what's important in life.

In particular, his 3 minute charge speech: (If you haven't seen
The Last Lecture of his on Youtube, it's really... special.) Buy
the book, too... it's pretty gosh darn good.
Randy's 3 Minute Charge Speech to Carnegie Mellon Graduates:
One of the things that Randy Pausch said really had an impact on me.
He said, he doesn't regret the silly foolish things he did in his life... in
looking back, he would regret what he didn't go ahead and do when he
wanted...
For some reason, that just makes so much sense. We walk around so
inhibited, afraid to take chances, to look foolish, to appear unseeming.
We are timid and cautious... terrified someone may criticize or mock us.
And we cower when someone has a frightening face.

Okay, maybe most of us don't go that far... but really, most everyone I know
walks around being very unreal. They wear their masks and behave in a
certain way so they don't stand out.
This can be quite good... it makes society rather pleasant and easy to
endure.
But, in places where people are very real, open, honest, willing to look
a little foolish, it can be quite... interesting and full of life.
I myself am trying out just being me. Sorta! What a concept! : )

its true, we tend to care too much what other people think rather than be true to ourselves
