Despite considerable doubts, the truth is that a great deal of German preparation for invasion continued. Interesting weapons of an experimental nature were being developed. There was a submersible tank 90 feet in length which could carry 200 men, that would cross the channel by creeping along the sea bed, this was known as the "crocodile"

Even though Hitler had invaded the USSR in June 1941, and Sea Lion had been postponed, there was still a reluctance to abandon the project.  It was not until 13 February 1942 that the German forces earmarked for the invasion were officially released from their role.

Precautions against invasion within Britain continued, and even after the Allied invasion of Europe in June 1944, they still remained in force until five months later, when the British Invasion Committee was dissolved and road blocks dismantled.
