The origins of Barack Obama are a very important issue, this man is standing for the presidency of the greatest world power. Obama's father Barack Hussain Obama was a Muslim, his stepfather Lolo Soetoro was also a Muslim. As a boy Barack lived in Jakarta Indonisia, and he was registered by his family as a Muslim at both the schools he attended.

Questions need to be answered. Militant Islam is without doubt the biggest danger facing the world today, can Barack Obama deal with this issue without his Muslim background being an influence. Assuming there are no worries with regards to this, another problem has to be addressed, in accordance with the Muslim faith the religion passes from father to son. It is also a fact that a Muslim who gives up his faith is faced with death.

Barack Obama may feel a genuine Christian, but will extremist Islamists accept this. So the USA could have a president who might be a risk to national security on two counts, this is a big problem, which surely can't be "swept under the carpet "

The aren't "questions to be answered" anymore than John McCain has to answer questions about his religion. Obama has been a practicing Christian for over twenty years, and this sort of smear is silly. Do you really think that deep down he is still a Muslim, and he's trying to pull one over on all of us? Twenty years ago he knew that he'd be running for president, so he contrived this sham conversion? If somebody was going to pose as a Christian to win the presidency, they would have a much better chance of pulling it of if they had a white face and an all-American name, like McCain.

If you hate his politics, so be it - But stick to actual issues, not Manchurian paranoia.

This has nothing to do with skin colour, the question asked is whether Obama's origins will adversely impact on his thinking, and what effect that will have if he is elected president.

I thought you posted on this already, starrman. *More than once*. As to your 'facts':

Obama's father, who left his mother when Obama was two (they met only once after that), was born into a Muslim family but had stopped being a Muslim by the time he went to the US.

As a boy Barack lived in Jakarta Indonisia

        horrors!

and he was registered by his family as a Muslim at both the schools he attended.

        maybe. If so, so?

in accordance with the Muslim faith the religion passes from father to son. It is also a fact that a Muslim who gives up his faith is faced with death.

this is what good Brits like you and I call balls.

The fact that Obama lived in Indonesia, is just a point of information, as to the Muslim attitude to those who give up the faith, it might be balls to you, but they often take it very seriously, sadly on occasions with unpleasant consequences. Liberal Western views, cut little ice with militant Islam.

          indeed.

as to the Muslim attitude to those who give up the faith,

Before replying to you I researched this, even though I already knew of British Muslims who have renounced their faith (who are alive and well and some, fairly high profile). I found cases of young men who had renounced their faith, whose fathers' response was to ask an Imam for advice. The Imam's advice was that they try to reason gently with their sons.

          militant Islam

'Militant Islam' is one thing, Muslims another.

High profile UK Muslims have renounced their faith, name some. Of course not all Muslims are extreme, can you be sure who is and who isn't.

I now realise Ed Husain hasn't renounced his Muslim faith, he's renounced and denounced 'Islamism'. Hassan Butt too. Daveed Gartenstein-Ross (US, admittedly) is now a Christian. All three men are alive and well....

            have you a comment on

            ?

Of course not all Muslims are extreme,

the overwhelming majority are not (also, try to distinguish between 'theologically conservative' and '[politically] extreme').
