It comes with being in a power position.
It also shows the delicate precarious of power
positions. They understand their own vulnerabilities.
Yes, they want to make a huge example of this fellow.
So sad for him. He doesn't even deserve it! Heartbreaking.
I suppose that is right. Our government has made it worse by agreeing the extradition treaty that means the US doesn't even have to try to prove its case (the hacking is agreed but the amount of damage is, to put it mildly, in dispute).
