held up the brush and said, "Look! I found your brush!"
She looked intently at me and the brush, her ears fully
alert. She stared into my eyes, then at the brush, then
back into my eyes.
She was trying very hard to understand my words.
She didn't jump up, or even wag her tail. She just
tried to listen to my words.
So,then I said, "Would you like me to give you a
brushing?" If dogs could smile expectantly, then I'm
sure she would have. Politely, she immediately got
up and we walked over to a comfy, shady spot.
As I brushed her, she moved around so that I would
be sure to include her favorite spots. When I was done,
we sat down together. She looked into my eyes, and I
gave her a pat.
I realized that if my dog had been a pig, she would
have enjoyed her brushing just as much.
That was the thought I had.
My dog is a German Shepherd, quite large and rather
brawny and... dense. From the top, she looks a bit like
a solid piggy, but muscular.
It struck me how animals are so similar in many ways.
Having loved a pig once, I know how sensitive they are,
how much they enjoy a loving rubbing, and how they
were designed, just like my dog, to appreciate and
enjoy the finer things of life. Like a brushing.
I wish, no, I pray, that we treat all animals so lovingly
and well.
This post was not about dolphins... but, I know without
a doubt that dolphins and whales feel and love... almost
just like my doggy, in their own special way.
I'm sure of it.
Hey you know AdGuy always gets the last word! ;)
